Health Risks Related to COVID‐19, Psychological Distress and Perceived Productivity

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the lives of billions around globe. Yet, our understanding its impact on psychological distress and work productivity remains limited. Using data from two waves Understanding Society study, a representative British survey reactions to pandemic, comprising 5829 individuals, we find that perceived health risks related affect working individuals negatively via increased distress. Results also show extent homeworking amplifies negative relationship between productivity. Additionally, is stronger for self-employed compared those who are in paid employment. Psychological distress, self-employment status gender jointly interact reducing productivity, such women experience strongest decline We discuss implications findings light supporting reduce maintain their following pandemic.
